Olivia's Journey through Guatemala

"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:14-16

Just Go.

Made it to Dallas yesterday! We are all here for Orientation before we finally leave on Friday! My oh my... it has been a long, informative day. The closer it gets and the more information I am given, the more anxious I am.

Today, I heard some of the greatest things I think I will ever hear. During trip leader training in the morning, our coordinator stressed to us the importance of flexibility. No matter how much we prepare, no matter how detailed our itineraries and budgets are, none of it may happen like we planned. After being given my trip leader notebook, emergency notebook, first aid kit, budgets, and money belt... I am feeling so excited and not gonna lie... a little bit overwhelmed. As I was sitting there today, taking it all in, I was reminded that this opportunity is what God has called me to do this summer. I am leading this group to Guatemala to serve the community, orphans, and mission teams that come down to us. This is my mission and what I have been called to do. I am so looking forward to this for so many reasons.. but mainly because leading mission trips has always been in the back of my mind as a career and I cannot wait to do that for a whole month! I know have so much responsibility while I am there.. but I feel ready and qualified to finally go! And I have had just the most encouraging friends today as I explain to them my overwhelming responsibility at training... thank you for all the sweet text messages, you know who you are! Your encouraging words mean so much to me!

My Dad and I got to be a part of the Orientation Session today and it was so good to have him just be there and learn all about what Buckner does.. because I did not know that there was so much! Buckner has Shoes for Orphan Souls, a Humanitarian Aid Center, a home for single mothers in Dallas, coordinates Missions Teams, orphanages, community transformation centers, and offices in so many different countries, and has foster care and adoption services. CRAZY! It is amazing to think about the impact that one organization has had on the world. And I get to be a part of it. So thankful.

Tomorrow we are volunteering at the Humanitarian Aid Center here in Dallas. Then at 5:45 AM Friday Morning.... WE ARE OFF! Please keep our team in your prayers as we travel to our new home... Sarah, Brittany, Jordan, Kaitlyn, and I. We already click so well and I can tell we will be the best of friends so that makes me even more excited to experience this with them!

Next post will be from my new home for the next month, Guatemala.
